YIN: Chandrapur students plan for better environment

CHALLENGE
Chandrapur is well-known for its sizable number of #coal mines, cement and paper factories. Though there is an overall development happening at a fast pace, there exists several #environmental hazards. The city tops the list for being the most #polluted in the State and is on the sixth position in the country. In order to tackle these #environment issues, there is a need to channelise the young generation, who need to take the baton forward to create awareness about environment protection. The Geography Department of JanataCollege has taken up this initiative by joining hands with Sakal Media Group’s Young Inspirators Netwrok #YIN.

EXPERT
Yogesh DudhpachareAt present, the #pollution levels in the city, created by the #factories and #coal mines in this region, are alarmingly high. So, there is a need to create #awareness among the citizens about its harmful effects. Through #YIN, we will be able to collate the youth and be able to take #awareness drives at a broader and bigger scale. I am assured and hopeful about bringing about some positive steps through the #awareness campaigns the youngsters will undertake.
-Yogesh Dudhpachare,
HoD, Department of Geography,Janata College

MENTOR
Deepak MhaisekarWhile talking about maintaining #pollutionfreeenvironment, the youth also need to focus on less use of plastic and more #treeplantation as key areas to highlight. Citizens need to be encouraged to use bicycles and public transport over their private vehicles, that will reduce the #pollution levels to a large extent. They also need to take into confidence, the rural population and make them #aware of the importance of sanitation. The Sakal Media Group’s #YIN is truly a commendable initiative that will sow seeds of responsibility in the hearts of the youth. I extend all the good wishes for this initiative.
– Deepak Mhaisekar,
Collector, Chandrapur

Additionally, we also conduct various #awareness programmes for the public to inform about serious issues such as #pollution. With the help of #YIN, college students are coming forward to discuss various issues like #pollution of rivers and #airpollution during festivals.”
– Rani Chavan,
