The YIN team emphasizes on Environmental Protection

An innovative experiment by YIN team at Shivaji Science College, Nagpur came up with the idea of using Bamboo litter boxes that are bio-degradable and environmentally friendly.

Contributing to Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the YIN team from Shivaji Science College, Nagpur has taken an initiative to install litter boxes made from bamboo as a step towards protecting the environment and creating employment for the needy people in Melghat.

Bamboo is beneficial in terms of protecting environment. It produces high quantities of oxygen and absorbs waste water. This will help protecting the ecosystem.

Project Format :

1. This pilot project will be implemented on Nagpur University campus. There is a need of litter boxes around the entire campus.

2. The plan is to install 1 Bamboo litter box in each department and a few small litter boxes in the vicinity, with a total of 62 litter boxes on the campus.

3. Rs. 5 each will be collected from all the students and remaining amount will be contributed by the college and thru donations from external civic bodies.

4. After the installation, YIN members will conduct an awareness drive amongst students requesting everyone to use these litter boxes and keep the campus clean.

5. There will be a separate system in place to collect garbage from these boxes and dispose them properly.

Permission has been taken from concerned officers to complete this project in one month. This project will help conserve the environment and create an eco-friendly campus as well as create employment for people. This will also inspire other campuses to take up such initiatives and keep their habitat clean.
