Sinhgad College explores career opportunities

CHALLENGE

Students choose traditional courses after their standard X or XII examination. The reason for this rat race is due to unawareness about many other courses. The monotony of regular fields does not translate into success and even leads to many students quitting the stream. It is too late by the time students become aware about other fields that interest them.Awareness with regard to emerging streams and sub streams needs to be created among students from standard VIII – IX. It will secure the future of thousands of students and help students to choose from a variety of courses.
The Young Inspirators Network (YIN) members and other students from the Sinhgad Arts, Science and Commerce College, Narhe campus have decided to start an awareness campaign on emerging streams. The members will inform students about various sub streams within conventional streams such as Arts, Science and Commerce as well as other emerging courses to students from standard VII – IX.

According to students, being aware about the latest career options can help them to avail new opportunities and make a choice for their future.

Primarily, this project will be implemented on a pilot basis for students from VIII – X standard from SinhgadInstitutes schools. The project will be implemented in other schools at a later stage.

Lack of awareness about emerging courses often leads to students choosing an inappropriate field. Identifying their strengths and choosing the courses which interest them will help students receive quality education and be the best in their field. Students from Sinhgad College are doing a good job and I can guide these students whenever they need it. Awareness about fields available for students will open new windows for the students.

I appreciate the initiative by our students as this is the need of the hour. These students will be changedrivers. I will be extending all support to these students whenever they need it. Also, this project should not start but also be sustained for the long run so that it benefits more students. There are various fields which are still unknown to many students and this initiative will help those students.

We will carry out the basic research about various courses and make a presentation for students belonging to various schools. They can opt according to their likes and interests. Our aim is to inform students about the various learning opportunities apart from conventional courses.

Many of us came to know about the options very late but we got a chance to choose the desired stream. But this should not happen with other students. Through our campaign, we will introduce and informing the students about various courses available at present. This will help students to choose the field of their interest.

We are introducing the pilot project. Hence, we should learn from this and we will make the necessary changes, if needed. We will also ask students from other colleges of Sinhgad institutes to join us in this project. This will increase our strength as well as help spread the message soon and effectively.
