Sadhu Vaswani students spread awareness about breast cancer
CHALLENGE
Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting women. Around us, we have been observing that the mortality rate is high due to late diagnosis of breast cancer. This is because of lack of awareness among citizens about breast cancer. Many women are also unaware about the symptoms the of breast cancer and techniques of self detection. Some are shy to go to a hospital for diagnosis.

Women are scared about breast cancer due to lack of knowledge about the same. Around 80 per cent of cancers are treatable if detected early. Breast cancer today can be cured unlike hypertension or diabetes. To help create awareness about the same, students of SVIMS are coming forward, which is very good. I will educate them about breast cancer to help clear their doubts and understand facts.

Breast cancer cases are on the rise in the city. Ignorance about this disease is leading to late diagnosis and high mortality among breast cancer patients. Our college has around 100 girls. Their potential can be harnessed to spread awareness about this disease. The institute is planning to organize sessions for awareness about breast cancer with the help of oncologists from Inlaks Budhrani hospital. The students can convince people to attend these sessions and understand methods like self examination and importance of early diagnosis. We want to remove the fear of breast cancer.

Women generally lack knowledge of the most common signs of breast cancer. Students from our college believe that there is a need to create awareness. We are planning to spread awareness among women and get them to college where we can organize a session. There is also a plan to encourage women to go for early diagnosis and self examination for which we are planning to take the help of oncologists.

Everyone is aware that breast cancer is very much prevalent. But women are shy to go for a checkup and some are also scared. To help women understand the facts, we students have decided to talk to women and encourage them to attend sessions in college, which will be conducted by oncologists. This will help them understand the disease.

The college will organise sessions creating awareness and will conduct #mammogram for screening breast cancer tumours. At times, women do not approach a doctor due to financial reasons. Hence, we are planning to help women undergo screening at nominal rates. We will also have a Facebook page, which will have the registered women.
