Nashik students doing their bit for visually impaired

CHALLENGE

Students and Young Inspirators Network (YIN) members from KarmveerBaburaoThakareCollegeofEngineering (KBRCOE) don’t want to study merely for marks but they also want to do something for society. To achieve this goal, the YIN members have decided to pitch in for the sale of Sunrise Candles, an organisation established by visuallyimpaired BhaveshBhatiya by overcoming all hurdles. These members have taken up the challenge to sell around 9,700 candles made by visuallyimpaired people from the organisation.

ACTION PLAN

These students will be trying to sell products of SunriseCandles in various exhibitions as well as various door-to-door marketing. These students won’t be hesitating to knock each and every door to promote the candles. These students will also share the special features of the candles made by the organisation. First year MBA students have set a target of selling candles worth Rs 1 lakh. SayaliJadhav, PratikSanghpal, RashidAnsari, KajalMahajan, KanchanVasaikar, MaithiliJagdale, RohitPapal and AjinkyaBhalerao, all first year students, have taken this initiative.

Apart from teaching various courses, developing social and practical aspects of the personality of students is a task of the college. Students should also know their dutytowardssociety and for that these students have decided to make available a market for SunriseCandles. Considering this, many students have participated in this programme and are getting a good response from the customers.

It is important to implement the things that are learnt in practical ways, especially, if it is for society. With this initiative, the management students will get to learn marketingskills as well as the their duty to society. Every student should have social as well as personal responsibility and by selling products made by visuallychallenged people, they are helping their cause. This will also help to increase the self-confidence of the students.

We wanted to do some social work while getting management education, Around this time, we came to know about the SunriseCandles, a company run by the visuallychallenged persons. This is not only helping us to learn marketing skills and gain selfconfidence, but also giving us immense joy. I am sure that this will help us in the future as well.

  • This exercise is helping me to gain experience in marketing and about selling products in the direct market. This also enriches our experience and we get to understand the views of customers. At the end of the day, we also get the satisfaction of contributing to an organisation run by visually impaired people.
