Dr D Y Patil Law College, Pimpri students take law to rural areas
CHALLENGE
Using knowledge gained through education is the need of the hour for the society. Rural citizens are unawareaboutlaw and women, who are a major part of the society, are unaware of the laws. To create awareness about law among women and other citizens, students from Dr D Y Patil Law College, Pimpri have taken an initiative: the students and YoungInspiratorsNetwork (YIN) members have decided to create awareness regarding law. These YIN members will also perform street plays so that common people understand law concerning them. Students will also create awareness about women’s rights and Right to Information (RTI).

Though law is an integral part of the society, many people are unaware about it. People should understand and should be aware about laws. Inspired to spread awareness about legislations among common people, our students will go to rural areas and create awareness about law through street plays. This initiative was organised at our college regularly but now this will be extended for the commonman. In this initiative, we will be spreading awareness about various laws in a common language.

There is need for awareness about the Constitution as well. We can provide legelaid service in rural areas. We realised the necessity to create awareness about laws and the system of law during our legelaid service in rural areas. Following which, students and we came across this idea of spreading consciousness about laws in common people.

We could reach various villages during our college activity. This will help us in understanding the lack of legal knowledge among commonpeople. There are many crimes like dowry deaths, gender-selective abortion and harassment that take place in the society and households, so there is a strong need to create awareness about it.

Legallanguage for the common people is very difficult to understand. We are working towards making it a people-friendly language. We are receiving guidance from our college to explain law to people. We also have information about the problems prevailing in rural areas. This also triggered positive changes and motivated us to do some social work.
