Pimpri-Chinchwad College of Engineering tries to eradicate unemployment

Pimpri-Chinchwad College of Engineering tries to eradicate unemployment

CHALLENGE

Each person dreams of having a good salary but not everyone’s dream is fulfilled. The country produces almost 10 lakh engineers and Maharashtra produces one lakh engineers annually. Only 20 to 25 per cent of these students get recruited through campusplacements. The problem of unemployedengineers is very grave. The YIN members of Pimpri Chinchwad College of Engineering have undertaken an initiative to reduceunemployment.

Unemployment is a curse for many engineering students in this country. The State government, students, colleges and universities should try to solve this issue. To solve this problem, there should be an Industry-academia collaboration. This collaboration is being organised since the last six to seven years. In such meets and collaboration training placements, officers of around 200-250 colleges from the country and representatives of more than 60 companies have been coming up with ideas and discussion on various subjects. OffCampus placement is providing some relief to the problem of unemployment. More such initiatives will help solve issues like unemployment.

PCCOE has a large OffCampusPlacementprogramme every year where 30 to 35 companies recruit students. About 5,000 to 6,000 students from across the country participate in this fair. The college even hosts a research paper system and a job fair. All these activities have enabled several students to get good jobs, in the last five years. IBM, HP, L&T Infotech, Cognizant, Symantec, SKF, Amdocs, Quinox and many other renowned companies participate in PCCOE’s placement programme to provide jobopportunities to unemployed engineers. We have taken this issue of unemployment as a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project and are trying to solve the problem.

It is very frustrating for a student if he/she does not get a job after investing four years and lakhs of rupees in education. This leads to depression for several students. OffCampus recruitment and job fairs are a good way for such unemployedstudents to get jobs.

Unemployment is a curse and work gives pleasure. I am part of the OffCampus recruitment since the last three years and we are helping many students get jobs through this process. We are proud of this work.
