Nashik Engineering Students to help manage Kumbha Mela
CHALLENGE
Millions of devotees travel to Nashik to be a part of the upcoming Kumbh Mela. Managing all these devotees is a big challenge for the administrators. Nashik Engineering Students and YoungInspiratorsNetwork (YIN) members came together on EngineersDay to find solutions. Several projects to make Kumbh Mela a hassle-free event have emerged from the discussions.
ACTION PLAN
Nashik Engg Students have developed an app to help the devotees reach their destinations easily. Another app called Meditracker has been developed which will enable injured people to get appropriate medical help. The students also developed an instrument that will enable people to charge their phones at a meagre sum of Rs 12. YIN members from Nashik and 30,000 volunteers, who would be taking part in the Mela, will have these apps on their phone to assist the estimated 20 million people visiting the KumbhMela. They have pledged to make the KumbhMela a memorable experience for all the devotees.

Several youth associated with YIN used street plays as a medium to spread awareness about water conservation during JalDindi. The events organised in association with these youths on Engineers Day will be very useful, keeping in mind the Kumbh Mela. The brainstorming has given birth to several projects which will prove beneficial to development. Engineering Colleges will support any developmental activities that happen in Nashik in the future. The students will be extended complete support.

The Kumbh Mela is an event which has given Nashik an identity. It is the duty of each citizen of Nashik to ensure that the devotees enjoy all facilities and face no problems. With this motive, the students brainstormed to find solutions on the occasion of Engineers Day. Through the medium of YIN, projects on Godavari River Pollution will also be taken up. YIN has started providing a direction to the youth.

Since I became a member of YIN, my knowledge of social problems has grown and I have started getting involved in several activities. My focus is also on spreading awareness among the youth and encouraging them to participate in social activities. I am happy to have got the opportunity to tell aspiring engineers about what I learnt from YIN. I am ready to bring about change.

Everyone assimilates theoretical knowledge while studying engineering, but YIN has facilitated us to use this knowledge to solve real life problems. To solve the problems that arise during the Kumbh Mela, the youth have developed several projects and software applications. The Kumbh Mela will definitely have a technotouch. I am proud to be associated with YIN.
