‘Intercaste marriages help eradicate the caste system’
Pune: Social worker and writer Anil Awachat has said that intercaste marriages play a huge role in removing caste barriers.
He was speaking at Sakal Media Group’s Young Inspirators Network’s (YIN) summer workshop ‘Chala Ghaduya Deshasathi’ (Let’s make it happen for the country), organised for the students of Pune, Ahmednagar and Nashik.
He said, “Casteism and poverty has to be reduced and everyone should work for it. Any country is not just a piece of land, but a place where people, nature and animals have to survive and help each other.”
Awachat also said that the gap between rich and poor should be reduced and people should stop discriminating and remove the labels of caste.
“The youth also must have a mindset of giving back to society. Their goals should not be selfish, but about how he/she can make the society grow,” added Awachat.
The founder of Muktangan centres, Awachat, said that he was in Bihar when there was drought there and he worked as a hotel waiter where he collected Rs 23,000 so that he could provide medical help. He has also worked for the betterment of slum dwellers, sex workers and labourers.
Shrimant Mane, Resident Editor of Sakal, Nashik edition, also spoke on how the youth in India actually brought a revolution by bringing in the Modi government.
“The number of first time voters was huge and it shows that they wanted to change the future of the country. It shows you are aware of your responsibility.” He said that the barriers that stop India from growing are unemployment, drought and other agricultural issues, medical issues and lack of education.
“The political parties use these to get the youth for their own motives and that is what the youngsters should shy away from. The mindset of discrimination has to change, be it towards north eastern students here or Biharis in Maharashtra or women and other types. The social fabric of India is very secular and discrimination is not something on which the country can progress,” said Mane.
The session was attended by more than 200 students, who took inspiration from the speakers. Also present was Tejas Gujarathi, Chief manager, YIN.
